New England Equal Best Victory Run Since Tom Brady Era with Win Over New York Jets
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson has scored five scores during the current campaign
New England equaled their longest winning run since the Tom Brady era as they overcame division opponents the Jets by 13 points in professional football
Rookie Henderson led the way with three TDs as the Patriots notched an eighth straight win for the initial occasion since legendary quarterback Tom Brady's closing campaign with the team in 2019
QB Drake Maye accumulated 281 passing yards and a score, connecting on 25 passes from 34 throws
Victory increases the New England's lead at the top of the division as they advanced to a 9-2 record, with the New York bottom after falling to a 2-8 mark
The visitors had gone in front at Gillette Stadium with QB Justin Fields running in a five-yard TD to finish the Jets' first possession
But the Patriots answered in the second quarter as Henderson scored two short rushing scores before the ball carrier caught a pass from Maye at the back of the end zone midway through the third period to push the score to 21-7
"That was a big time for him rising to the challenge, and it's been excellent for him to keep gaining experience," the quarterback commented on Henderson. "He aims to be excellent."
Fields threw to Metchie late in the third quarter to narrow the deficit for the visitors but Andy Borregales converted a two field goals in the fourth quarter as the home side closed out the win
